Stetter TimeTraveler303@aol.com October 26, 2007, 1:52 am The Oakley GRAPHIC, Oakley, Kansas; August 29, 1890 OBITUARY Bessie Cleo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. HESS, died August 26, 1890, aged 2 months and 29 days. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church August 27, at 2 P. M., being conducted by Rev. G. M. GLICK. Interment took place in the Oakley cemetery. A large number accompanied the bereaved parents to the cemetery and sympathy is extended to them in their sorrow by all the people of Oakley and vicinity. ________ We did not think our little precious girl with cheeks that like the roses, And eyes that ever smiled with joy. We thought that we might always keep the darling here below, But now we weep such bitter tears to lay her bright head low. If love could keep little Bessie here she'd ne'er have left our side, If tears could stay death's ruthless hand she never would have died. She was the sunbeam of our home for three short, happy months, And for her future in our hearts were many doubts and fears, But oh, our Father saw we loved our Bessie far too well. Then place her in her coffin bed and lay her bright face low, She's only gone to rest, perchance an hour, before we go. There was that look upon her face as when she dying lay. A pitying angel had stooped down and kissed all pain away. But oh, the thought, the blessed thought, that when our race is o'er And we have crossed life's stormy sea and reached the shining shore If we have overcome the world, are victors in the race, We'll clasp our Bessie in our arms and see her angel face. And in that glorious city, whose streets are paved with gold, And where each day unto our eyes new wonders will unfold, We'll take our darling in our arms, our Savior's face will see, And join in praises of His name throughout eternity. -- HOME. ==================== CARD OF THANKS. The undersigned wish to thank the many friends for their kindness during the sickness and death of their baby, Bessie. -- Mr. and Mrs. C. C.
