Stetter Timetraveler303@aol.com November 18, 2007, 10:50 am The Oakley Graphic An Emporia special: Charles R. RUSSELL was run over by a switch engine on the Santa Fe road, at the Merchant street crossing, and instantly killed, his head and both legs being severed from the body. His brother, Owen J. RUSSELL, deputy circuit court clerk, on being suddenly told of the horrible accident, being in poor health, went into spasms and now lies in a precarious condition. An invalid sister and aged mother were also so prostrated by the news that their lives are despaired of. The RUSSELL family are old settlers and among the best known citizens here. No one saw the accident, and the supposition is that he came out of the Park Place hotel into the dark and rain and attempted to cross the track.
