Stetter TimeTraveler303 March 26, 2008, 11:11 pm The Winona CLIPPER, Winona, Logan County, Kansas; May 3, 1888 Certificate No.: unknown MARRIAGE VOWS. SNYDER--BELVEAL:--On Tuesday, May 1st, 1888, in the office of W. H. EDMONDSON, Justice of the Peace, Winona, Kansas, Mr. Frank SNYDER of WaKeeney, Kansas, and Miss Mahala BELVEAL of this city. Tuesday morning his royal nibs, 'Squire EDMONDSON, might have been seen parading our streets bright and early with a boiled shirt on, but yet we couldn't perceive what notable event was to follow and not until almost the high-noon hour did it come to our ears that the 'squire was gwine (sic) to make a splice or bust his paper collar. However as no attempt was made to prevent us intruding into the 'Squire's office we proceeded hither and there in all his pomp and majestic sphere; so becoming to the 'Squire, stood before him hand in hand a young couple of either sex, blushing, with the thoughts of the happy future before them--for had not the happiest experience of their life come--for there stood the Squire with his book of forms before him, and a license granting he or any other legalized person to perform the ceremony and connect the banns making the twain as one. Solemnly and precisively (sic) did his honor pronounce to the couple about to enter upon a new road the vows and emphatically did he use the words that pronounced Frank SNYDER and Mahala BELVEAL husband and wife. The bride is one of Winona's charming young ladies who has numerous friends, and the groom Mr. Frank SNYDER is a promising and intelligent young man formerly of WaKeeney. The happily wedded couple departed on the noon train for Colorado where they will hold down a claim and enjoy their honeymoon in peaceful and blissfull solitude. A number of the young ladies acquaintances, schoolmates and relatives witnessed the ceremony and accompanied them to the depot, wishing them a bon voyage over the turbulent and adventur ous (sic) sea of connubial felicity. ________________ Source: The Winona CLIPPER, Winona, Logan County, Kansas; Thursday, May 3, 1888; Volume 1 No. 23, page 1 column 3.
