Obituary of KELLEY, Alpheus Guy Lyon County, KS 1887 Emporia Daily Republican, April 05, 1887 Alpheus Guy Kelley died Sunday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock in the 42nd year of his age. Mr. Kelley was a native of the state of Maine and early learned the machinist trade. he has been employed for many years in the capacity by the Santa Fe Railroad at this place. During the Civil War he was an honored member of C. O. F. 2nd ME Cav. Yesterday at 2:00 o'clock Rev. J. W. Walker, pastor of the West Street, M.E. Church conducted the funeral services at the family residence on West Fourth Ave. The GAR post of this city had charge of the ceremonies and interred the remains in Maplewood Cemetery. A very large number of his brethren and may citizens were in attendance. For a long time the deceased had been a suffer with consumption, thought he stood it bravely and with patience. He leaves a wife and four young children. He was the son of Martin Cushing and Betsey Fairfield (Dow) Kelley.
