A large crowd assembled at the church January 27th, to witness the marriage of Miss Ellen Shaughnessy to Mr. Patrick Loob. Miss Ellen was one of the best dressed bride that ever stood before the altar, being dressed in drab silk and decorated with jewelry and flowers. Patrick was also handsomely dressed in a black cloth suit; he was ranked among the handsome young men of St. Bridget. After the ceremony was over the old folks went to her father's house and enjoyed a most delicious dinner besides refreshments, leaving the junior folks to tip the fantastic toe in the evening. This was the grandest affair that ever occurred in the settlement. The table in particular, it being a feast for the eyes as well as the mouth. Additional Comments: Ellen's wedding dress is on exhibit in the Marshall County Historical Society's Historic Courthouse museum in Marysville, Kansas. A photograph of the couple on their 50th Wedding Anniversary, with Ellen in her wedding dress, has been posted to the photos section of this site and can also be viewed in my tree on Ancestry.com, username cschulte8088.
