                                ISAAC GIVENS DEAD

                  Familiar Character Will Be Seen No More

Isaac Givens, more famillary known as Grandpa Givens, died last night at the 
home of his son, Merrit Given, in the rothwest part of town.  His death was 
due to old age and a complication of several diseases.  He had been bedridden 
about 6 months and was unconscious five days before his death.  The body will 
be taken to Roxbury where it will be laid beside his wife and other 
relatives.  The funeral services will be held in Roxbury tomorrow afternoon.  
One of his last requests before losing consciousness was that his body be 
taken to Roxbury.

Isaac Givens was born December 7, 1812.  The state which he was born is not 
known.  He moved to this county in 1880 and settled on a claim in the 
northeast corner of the county.  He moved to this city a number of years ago 
and for several years has sold fruit, candy and peanuts about the streets.  He 
was very energetic in his old age and did not stop work until compelled to do 
so from sickness.  His financial conditions were very cramped and often his 
future looked dark, but he turned a deaf ear to all entreaties to spend the 
rest of his life on the county farm.  He leaves six chilren and a number of 
grandchildren.

Additional Comments:
Isaac Givens was born in Tennessee and came to Missouri Territory with his 
parents between 1815-1820 to what is now Cooper Co., Missouri.  He was married 
to Catherine Fletcher and lived in Ray, DeKalb, Worth (earlier Gentry) Cos., 
Missouri.  Records can be found in all these counties in Missouri for him.  
His brother Merrit Givens (for whom he named a son) lived in Daviess Co., Mo.
