The program on Saturday began at 10:30 a.m. with devotions led by Mrs. Oscar Treaster, granddaughter of J. H. Leslie, one of the founders of the congregation. A Diamond Jubilee banquet was held at noon with Wallace H. Treaster acting as toastmaster. The afternoon program included musical numbers, reminiscences, a look at the church today and "a challenge of the church of the future." The day's activities were concluded with a Communion preparatory service, and the Communion service was held on Sabbath morning. The Hopewell congregation was organized, with 38 members, in 1876 and two years later the first building was completed with lumber transported from the nearest railroad station 80 miles away. The first full-time pastor was Rev. J.P. Finney who served the congregation for eight years. The present pastor is Rev. Dale E. Brehmer.
