The Independence Daily Reporter, Montgomery County, Thursday, June 17, 1943
Mrs. Agnes GARLAND, 90, pioneer Kansan, died yesterday morning at her home in
Fredonia. Funeral services were held this afternon at the Fredonia Methodist
church, and burial was in the Fredonia cemetery. Mrs. Garland was reared on a
claim near Lafontaine and taught for eight years at Union school, near the home
of her parents. She was married to H. Garland in 1874, and for a time they lived
in Elk City, later moving to Fredonia where he was a prominent merchant. He died
in 1932. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Gertrude HARLAN, and one
granddaughter, Miss Marjorie HARLAN of Wichita.
