Laura B. Smith, 81, of Mound Valley died Monday morning, August 23, 1993 at 
Coffeyville REgional Medical Center, Coffeyville, after a lengthy illness.

She was born July 31, 1812, in Garnett to Frank Sr. and Hazel (Williamson) 
Miller.  She had lived at Mound Valley since 1972.

She had been a school teacher, had worked at the Census Bureau, and was a site 
manager for Congregate Meals in Mound Valley.

She married Jasper "Jack" Smith November 28, 1930 at Lyndon.  He died August 
9, 1983.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Mound Valley United Methodist Church and a past 
president of its United Methodist Women and a Sunday School teacher for many 
years.

Survivors include a son, Frank Smith of Council Grove; two daughters, Nellie 
Leon of Mound Valley and Charlotte Bronnenberg of Arvada, Colorado; four 
brothers, Frank Miller and Melvin Miller, both of Garnett, Ernest Miller of 
Ottawa; and Robert Dean Miller of Linn Valley Lake, LaCynge; nine 
grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by 1 
son, Jackie Jr.; 1 daughter Laura Bell; twin sisters and a brother.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in 
Mound Valley with the Rev. Marti McDougal officiating.  Burial will be in 
Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bath Funeral 
Home of Altamont.  The family suggests memroials to the Mound Valley United 
Methodist Church.
