These cemeteries were painstakingly searched and documented by Dewain Hettenbach of White City. This cemetery is located on private land SE of Council Grove where David, Fred, Kate and Carrae LITKE and the OHMS are buried. It is the "Little John Cemetery." This land was owned by Fred LITKE. I have made a more complete and accurate cemetery listing. My family and I went down and cleaned up the cemetery last spring (2000). We scrubbed the stones and could then read them, except the ones that were in Cyrillic -(Ukrainian/Russian)., some of the head stones were homemade There is only one that may be in German. The small stones the John Sower mentions are individual plot markers. I may be able to have the ones written in Cyrillic transcribed. David & his wife, Justina (KUNTZ) LITKE and their children, Fred LITKE, Mary Elizabeth (LITKE) JENKINS, Florence May (LITKE) EITSON, Minnie (LITKE) SCHAFFER, Martin C. LITKE, and Elizabeth Pauline (LITKE) SCHULTZ arrived in New York, June 28, 1876 on the ship, 'The Wieland'. Their eldest son and family, John and Anna (STEGMAN) LITKE arrived in New York, August 18, 1875 on the ship, 'The Cimbria'. DIRECTIONS: Go east from Council Grove on Highway 56 for 2.5 miles. Turn south on to 500th Road, (the first right turn). Travel approximately one mile south to the first left turn. The gate to the cemetery is immediately after the turn. This is private land and permission must be given by the owner to enter the property. Follow the path across the draw and continue until you reach the end of the field. Walk along the edge of the field, (east), 400 yds, at the end of the field turn left, (north) and walk another 100 yds to the entrance. The entrance is on the south side of the cemetery. Upon entering the cemetery, walking from the south to the north: ====================================================================================================================================================== LAST NAME GIVEN NAME BIRTH DEATH AGE NOTES/INSCRIPTION ====================================================================================================================================================== Steege Lydia (LITKE) 1885 1972 . daughter of Fred and Carrae (Caroline) OHM LITKE Steege Martin 1892 1934 . .
