A strong young man of some 30 summers is taken from the busy scenes of earth. Charles A. Barnes, Co. A. 22 Reg. Kan. Vol., is dead. The quieting finger of death in the form of typhoid fever touched his heart a few minutes past 12 o'clock last Sunday night, and he slept, no longer disturbed by the sorrows of life. His death was not altogether unexpected, although his friends and relatives hoped for his recovery, and some believed that he would win the contest over the fever that had so viciously attacked him, but such was not to be. He had not been enjoying good health since his return from the army, but made a gallant fight up until a few days ago in trying to keep from taking to his bed. All that loving, willing hands could do, was done for him. The funeral occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the M.E. church, when a very feeling funeral discourse was delivered by Rev. B. F. Summers, after which the remains were conveyed to Mt. Hope cemetery, the hearse being preceded by band, soldiers of the late war, G.A.R. Post and the pall bearers, and was followed by relatives and a host of friends, both old and young. The pall bearers were comrades of the deceased during the late war. No larger funeral procession ever left our town. Five sisters, three brothers and hundreds of friends are left to mourn his death.
