Galesburg Enterprise, Friday, May 12, 1899
While Hugh Boner of Chanute was setting the brakes on a freight train near 
Longton, last Friday afternoon, the brake rod broke, and he was thrown under 
the car where both his legs were cut off. He was placed on a special train and 
started for the hospital at Topeka, but he died just as the train pulled into 
Lawrence. The remains were taken to Parsons on Saturday afternoon and interred 
in the cemetery there at 10 o'clock Monday. He leaves a wife and one child, 
father and mother, three brothers and two sisters to mourn his untimely death.
