Cecil THORNBROUGH of Quenemo, was seriously shot by his father-in-law, Wm. McCORMICK, at the McCormick home at Prescott, Linn County, Kansas, on Saturday evening, when Thornbrough and his brother, "Hank" appeared and endeavored to take McCormick's daugther, Esther, who was also the wife of Cecil Thornbrough, form the family home. Cecil said that his father-in-law shot him with a shot gun loaded with small shot, from a distance of about ten feet. Late in the night, or rather early Sunday morning, he appeared at the home of Dr. JOHNSON at Pomona and had his arm dressed. He was recognized by parties in Pomona as the car headed west and the car number secured. Just shortly before daylight the car drove up to the home of Thornbrough's parents in Quenemo. Officers had been watching the house and territory around Quenemo for weeks, in an effort to capter the two Thornbrough boys, Hank wanted for shooting Sheriff WANTLAND of Ottawa while helping his brother, Cecil to escape from a gang of raod workers, where he was serving time on a liquor charge. Since then they have been suspected of robbing banks at Prescott, Harris, LeLoupe, Kansas, shooting a policeman in Omaha, helping rob a bank in Minnesota where one of the gang was shot, one captured and another wounded, and also suspected of motor car thefts. After the wounded boy was taken into his parents home, officers opened fire on Hank when he failed to surrender when challenged. Several loads of buckshot were fired at him. Seventeen shot hit the car he was trying to get into. An automatic pistol was lost by him, probably shot from his hand. He escaped. The car bore an Anderson county tag. An Iowa tag was in the car. The car was loaded with baggage, guns and revolvers. A woman who accompanied them was picked up. She said she had met the boys in Minnesota where she was a waitress at a lake resort, that she had known them for two weeks and had been riding with them for two days. She was locked up. Cecil Thornbrough was taken in an ambulance to Ottawa. Two brothers were arrested, charged with helping Hank to escape. Quenemo was swarming with officers all day and excitement was high.--Lyndon Herald. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/osage/newspapers/ceciltho117gnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ksfiles/ File size: 2.9 Kb
