The Osage County Chronicle Fri Oct 18, 1901 Pg 3 1901

   Hugh Cunningham of Bridgeport, Texas,
arrived here Thursday. Mr. Cunningham mined
coal in Burlingame for many years and is
known to every coal miner in this part of
the country. He says that mining in Texas
is alright in some of the camps, but the
majority of them are hard. His brother
Edward Cunningham is here and they will
mine coal in Burlingame this winter.

   The Cunningham boys, Hugh and Ed, left for
Bridgeport, Texas, Saturdy. They came here early
in the fal with the intention of remaining in 
Burlingame this winter, but changed their minds
because work in the mines is not as steady as
they had anticipated Before leaving, Ed said 
"I would rather live in Burlingame than in any
place I ever mined coal in. The town is alright,
the digging is fair, but there seems to be a
continual fight among the operators; the
result of it all will be that while the Osage
county fellows are scrapping among themselves,
the operators of other fields will slip in and
corra their markets. The operators of Osage
county should get together and as a unit
should put the product of their mines upon
the market at a margin that will give them
a living profit as well as enough to keep 
their mines in repair."
