The former is a guard at the Kansas prison and was arrested yesterday. His trial will be held August 4th before Judge Day, justice of the peace in Lansing. Pat Lavey is said to be in Burlingame, Kansas. The two brothers are charged with having assaulted Archie Huycke, another guard, last Saturday night on an electric car at Lansing. Will Lavey has been suspended from duty pending an investigation. According to information furnished The Times by a number of guards, Huycke, who is an elderly man, gave no provocation whatever for the assault. Mr. Huycke is a man who never engages in any controversie and enjoys the confidence and respect of all. The Lansing News (Lansing, KS) Fri Aug 8, 1902 pg 1 The Lavey trial came off Monday in Justice Day's court, Pat Lavey pleaded guilty as charged, and the case against William Lavey was dismissed. We have no heard whether the latter will reinstated at the prison or not. The fine and costs amounted to #31.00. But three of four witnesses on each side were examined. Chaplain McBrian at the prison, conducted the prosecution and Dave Flynn appeared for the defense, but Pat Lavey made his own plea. Pat no doubt was trying his his power to see how it will work when he begins selling his book. So far as the people here are concerned, this a closed incident and they hope another disgraceful row like it will not occur in Lansing or on the cars to and from the city.
