Briggs Were Held Wednesday. Funeral services for J.S. BRIGGS, 48 years old, who died Monday in a Souix City Hospital were held at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist church with Rev. Brown officiating. Interment was made in the Sloan cemetery under the direction of the Hills funeral home. Mr. Briggs was taken ill suddenly on Monday of last week and was taken to a Souix City hospital where he underwent an operation for appendicitis, and he died Monday, July 16, just one week after his operation. Jesse S. Briggs had farmed in this vicinity for the past 20 years and is well and favorably known here. Recently he has been living on the old McDonald farm in Lakeport township about three miles northwest of Sloan. Mr. Briggs is survived by his widow and four daughters, Edna of Souix City; Eleanor, Leona and Betty at home; three brothers, Charles of Sloan, Uriah, of Plover, Wis., and Isreal of Carbondale, Kansas and two sisters, Mrs. Ida NESTER, of Scranton, Kansas, and Mrs. Marie BUSH, of Topeka, Kan. The bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of the community in their great sorrow. The funeral was largely attended by relatives, friends and neighbors. --Sloan (Ia.)
