Nathan GREEN, farmer seven miles northwest of Burlingame is at liberty on $2,000 bond on a liquor charge in Osage County and a more serious charge may be brought against him as the result of the death of Ray CRIPPS, the Harveyville blacksmith, from alchoholic poisoning last week, according to Sheriff J.T. RANKIN of Osage County. Cripp's body was found in his barn and a coronor's jury pronounced his death due to alcoholic poisoning. Osage and Wabaunsee county officers are making an investigation to ascertain if Green should be held in connection with Cripp's death, Sheriff Rankin said. Green, as soon as he was arrested admitted selling Cripps the liquor, but declared Cripps was already drunk when the sale was made, Sheriff Rankin said. Two men who were with Cripps drank some of the liquor but suffered no ill effects from it.--Topeka Capital. Coroner W.C. HASENBACK was called to Harveyville about 9 o'clock Saturday morning, as soon as Ray's body was found by his father, Chas. Cripps. An inquest was held but their verdict was not given out, pending further investigation. Ray worked in the blacksmith shop with his father. He had been drinking hard for some time. The supposition is that he took the first drink out of the bottle and got most of the poison and this is the reason others who drank were not hurt. Ray was about 35 years old and has a wife and three children. He worked for Dougans at Paxico two or three years and his father says this should be a warning to those given to the use of hootch. It's powerful and it's poison.--Alma Enterprise. ==== KS-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ==== File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ks/osage/obits/c/cripps254ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/ksfiles/ File size: 2.2 Kb
