Her funeral sermon was preached by Mayor Loffty, who aytaked [sic] the bulwarks of evolution, proving that all animate life had once a beginning, and that all organism tended to dissolution; urging all to prepare for the solemn change that awaited them. The funeral was one of the largest ever seen at this place, as the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias turned out in regalia. The Osage County Chronicle Thur Apr 05, 1883 pg 5 Resolutions of Respect Scranton, Kansas, March 24th, 1883 To the Editor of the Free Press: Please publish the following in your paper Castle Hall} Star of the West Lodge, No. 46,} of the K. P. of Kansas} WHEREAS, It has pleased the Supreme Ruler of the universe to visit the peaceful home of our worthy brother David Griffiths with death, leaving him desolate, and his children mother- less is the death of his wife, therefore be it: Resolved, That in the death of Mrs. Mary Griffiths our beloved brother has met with an irreparable loss his children their main prop and support and the community a good and kind neighbor. Resolved, That we the members of Star of the West Lodgeg, No. 46, K. of P. do hereby extend to our worthy brother and children our heartfelt sympathies in this his present sad bereavement. Resolved, That our Lodge room be draped in mourning for twenty days. These resolutions be published in the county papers, a copy engrossed and presented to our worthy brother.
