James LOWES was born at North Umberland England, April 10th, 1852, and died August 26th, 1927, aged ??years, 4 months, 16 days. He was united in marriage to Catherine BEATTIE, March 9th, 1874. To this union nine children wer born, seven of whom survive. He came to Scranton direct from Hedley Hill, England over forty-eight years ago, and has resided here ever since. He leaves to mourn their loss his widow, Mrs. Catherine Lowes, and seven children: Mrs. Oscar LITTLE, Mrs. Hannah DROHM, Jennie Lowes, George Lowes, all of Scranton; Mrs. James DUNN, of Scammon, Kansas; Katheryn Lowes, of Denver, Colorado; Ben Lowes of Newton, Kansas. And seven grandchildren; also five brothers and two sisters. They are Robert Lowes of Scranton, Joseph Lowes, of Arma, Kansas; Ben Lowes of England; JOhn and Williams Lowes; Mrs. George McKINSTRY; Mrs. P.T. McNAMARA, of Scammon, Kansas; and a host of other relatives and friends. Although Mr. Lowes has not been well since April, and had been in a very serious condition the past few weeks, his death came as a shock to family and friends. During the last illness, though suffering severely, he showed unlimited courage and cheerfullness, and had not given up to go to bed to the very last, although fully realizing his condition. In this community where Mr. Lowes has lived forty-eight years, he has won the respect and esteem of all who knew him. He was a man of strong character, upright and honest; a good neighbor and a kind and loving husband and father. Through all the trials of life he was patient and cheerfull and those who knew him best loved and respected him the most. The community is saddened by his death; and extends sincere sympathy to the family in their loss. Beautiful services were held both at the home and at the church Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Basquin followed by interment in the Scranton cemetery. Card of Thanks. We desire to thank the many friends and neighbors for their kindness and sympathy during the illness and death of our dear husband and father, and for the beautiful floral offerings. Also we desire to thank the singers.
