Daily Illinois State Journal Wed Oct 30, 1918 pg 2 SIXTY-SEVEN NEW "FLU" CASES REPORTED Increase in Number of New Cases; No Decrease in Pneumonia Sufferers. Quarantine Not to Be Lifted Until Plague Danger Has Gone Seven deaths from pneumonia, and sixty-seven new cases of influenza were reported to the city health department yesterday. The total number of sufferers from the epidemic show an increase of thirty-two as compared with the next previous day, when thirty-five cases were quarantined by health inspectors. The increase in the influenza cases caused additional worry among health officials and members of the commission, which have been engaged in the battle against the spread of the disease. The increase was not confined to any one district of the city, according to reports. Inspectors who were engaged in quarantining, reported that in one of the homes visited they found twelve sufferers. There was no decrease in the number of cases of pneumonia which are under treatment at local hospitals. Patients came from various parts of central Illinois. At the emergency hospital at the state fair grounds, where only influenza sufferers are given treatment, thirteen new cases were recorded, and four were sufficiently recovered to return to their homes. Deaths Reported During Day The deaths reported are as follows: John Henry Schippman, 1537 West Capitol avenue. Mrs. Emma Kirk, 1522 West Capital avenue. Mrs. Sarah McGill, 1116 North Sixth street. Mrs. Juanita Hughes, Auburn Mary Zortea, Benid. John Viele, 5 years old, Starne Henry H. Schuett, 1920 North Ninth street. No date has been set for releasing quarantine regulations in Springfield. Dr. St. Clair Drake, director of the state department of health, announced that it may be a week or ten days before moving picture houses, theaters, and other lines of business under the ban are allowed to open for business. Chicago theaters opened yesterday for the first time. Conditions in the northern part of the state are improving rapidly, and if the same condition exists in this city, picture houses may open Saturday or Sunday. Dr. Drake reiterated his former statement that the ban will be removed by districts. This plan is necessary, he sasy, because the disease is sweeping to the downstate counties....... [more about these quarantine regulations can be found across this newspaper at the time] The Dewar Telegram (Okla.) Thur Oct 31, 1918 pg 3 Hugh J.
