Mrs. Shields Dies After Long Illness.
Had Been A Resident Of Osage County Forty-Eight Years.
Elizabeth COLE was born October 8, 1868 at Lonacony, Md., and died at her home
in Scranton, October 3, 1933 at 10 a.m., at the age of 74 years, 11 months and
24 days.
She was the daughter of Edwin and Sarah Cole. At the age of twelve with her
parents she came to Burlingame, Kansas. She was united in marriage to John
SHIELDS at Topeka, July 6th, 1887. In 1909 she came to Scranton where she has
lived since. 
She was a devoted wife and mother and was loved by many.
She was a charter member of the Pythian Sister Lodge of Burlingame, but was a
member of the Scranton lodge for the past twenty years.
Besides her husband, John Shields, she leaves to mourn their loss, three
children, Mrs. Cora GABLER, of Scranton, Mrs. Vida McKINLEY and Charles SHIELDS
of Topeka; three brothers, Jonathan SANDURTH, Canton, Ohio; Harry COLE, of
Burlingame and Chas. COLE of Oklahoma, three sisters, Mrs. Fannie THURMAN of
Melvern; Mrs. Mary BURNETT of Burlingame and Mrs. Lula STURMAN of Offalon, Ill.
Eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. J.R.
WILLIAMS. An unusually large crowd of friends were presnt to express their
appreciation of a kind friend and neighbor. The Pythian Sisters Lodge of
Burlingame had services at the cemetery.
