[The following is the article about Edward Cunningham] A Real Leader Big, broad-gnuged and possessing a rich Irish brogue, Edward Cunningham, president of the Texas Federation of Labor, is a fine example of the intelligent labor leader of Texas, who is a worker as well as a leader. President Cunningham is a coal miner, and for nine years, has been vice president of the United Mine Workers' union. He is a long time member of the United Mine Workers' union and has been unanimously elected president of the State Federatiion of Labor for five con- secutive terms. A labor union man for forty years, seventeen of which have been spent in Texas. President Cunningham has fought for the principles of unionism through some of the great battles in the history of the United Mine Workers' union. Although an American, he is also Irish, and uses a fine, rich County Cork brogue when addressing the convention. He is a man of simple tastes and has no affectations unless a lump of pyrites of iron set into a tie pin might be called such. Having no family, he is a father to the labor movement in Texas, especially in the interest of the coal miner, and through his energy and efforts the cause of unionism has grown in this state during the past seventeen years.
