Copying of the files within by non-commercial individuals and libraries is encouraged. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Smith G Roberts OBITUARY--Roberts Smith G Roberts, the oldest son of George and Emily E Roberts, was born at Washington, Iowa Feb 14, 1867, where he lived until the age of 17. He moved in the spring of 1884 to Phillips county, Kansas. After coming west Smith decided to follow the profession of farming and stock raising in which he was successful. Finding his life very lonely living as a bachelor, he decided to marry the girl of his choice, Syrena Roberta Rogers. On Aug 9, 1894, they were united in marriage. To this union two children were born, Celia of the home and Rolla R of Lyons, Kansas. Smith was a kind and loving husband and father, devoting his efforts for the good of his family, always ready to help a friend or neighbor, never refusing to serve his community or social organization. Living an upright and wholesome life, making himself a living example to his friends. In 1917 he became a member of the Methodist church at Prairie View, Kansas, and to this organization he has devoted his efforts, and was a constant worker and supporter of the church until the grim reaper called him to his home beyond the river of death. Smith's soul departed from his body at 1:30 am Aug 30, 1936. He leaves to mourn his loss, his widow Syrena Roberts, his daughter Celia, who resides at home, his son, Rollie of Lyons, Kansas; three grandchildren, John Gilbert, Betty Mary and Rollie Jerome; one daughter- in-law, Elizabeth E Roberts, his niece, Latitia De Young, two brothers, John Roberts of Penrose, Colo., H A Roberts of Fairbury, Neb; one sister, Mary Greer of Grants, New Mexico; two half-brothers, G E Thomas of Kalispell, Mont., and Albert Thomas of Phillipsburg; two half sisters, Viola Taylor of McCook, Nebraska, and Emma Hacker of Colorado Springs. Funeral services were held at the M E Church in Prairie View Sept 2, at 1:30 pm and burial was made in Fairview cemetery in Phillipsburg.
