OBITUARY

George Trout

George Trout, of Wamego, Kansas, a brother of Thomas and Frank Trout of 
Maquoketa and a frequent visitor to this his former home, died at Wamego, on 
August 7, 1911, the result of a paralytic stroke four weeks previous to his 
death. He was a man of much energy and accumulated a fortune estimated at 
$150,000. He leaves to mourn him a wife and two daughters, besides the 
brothers, and a host of warm personal friends. Mr. Trout was 68 years of age, 
and was born near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 1843. He moved with his parents 
to Maquoketa, where he resided until the commencement of the Civil War, when he 
enlisted in the Ninth Iowa Infantry as a private, and served three years. After 
the war Mr. Trout went to Topeka, Kansas, where he worked at his trade. He 
thought, however, that Wamego offered better opportunities and went there in 
1867, where he opened a tin shop and put in a small stock of goods. From time 
to time he engaged in other enterprises and investments, which were successful, 
almost without exception.
