Clarabelle Shumate was born in Fayetteville, Ark., July 26, 1861 and died at the St. Francis hospital in Wichita, Kans., March 29, 1917, at the age of 55 years, 6 months and 3 days. She became a member of the Congregational church at the age of twelve years. She was married to Marcus L. Blankenship on Oct. 25, 1877, and in 1881 they moved to Barber county, Kansas, and upon moving to Coats she placed her membership with the Methodist Episcopal church, and last year when they moved to Pratt she changed her membership to the M. E. church of that city, and has always been a devoted Christian woman, remaining as such until the time of her death. In the death of Mrs. Blankenship Pratt county loses one of its noble women and her many friends and acquaintancs feel the loss quite as keenly as do her family and relatives. The Courant joins in expressing the sympathy of the entire community to the bereaved ones. She leaves to mourn her death, besides her husband, one brother, Joseph Shumate; three nieces, Olive and Beulah Frazier and Hattie Johnson and one nephew Allen Frazier. The remains were brought to Coats last Friday and the funeral services were held at the Baptist church, the Order of Eastern Stars having charge of the funeral, she having been a member of same and was First Worthy Matron. A large attendance at the funeral was had, notwithstanding the fact that a windstorm was driving and made it very disagreeable to be out. Interment was made in the I. O. O. F. cemetery. "It is not death to die, To leave this weary road, And midst the brotherhood on high To be at home with God." It is not death to close the eye long dimmed by tears, and wake in glorious repose to spend eternal years. It is not death to fling aside this sinful dust and rise on strong exalting wing to live among the just. Jesus, Thou Prince of Life, Thy chosen can not die! Like Thee, they conquer in the strife To reign with Thee on High. ---------Same Newspaper Page------------ Card of Thanks We desire to express our appreciation to those who so lovingly tendeed their services and sympathy during the sickness and death of our beloved wife and aunt.
