        Kansas Regent Is Dead at 68
   MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) -- T. J. Griffith, 68,
prominent Kansas banker and member of the state
Board of Regents, died in a hospital here 
early today.
   Griffith had been hospitalized since last 
Friday after suffering a heart attack.
   Chairman of the board of Union National Bank
in Manhattan, Griffith was active in Republican
party affairs. He was a former member of the
Kansas Turnpike Authority, past president of 
the Kansas Bankers Association and past president
of the Kansas state Chamber of Commerce.
   A native of Scranton, Kan., he settled in
Manhattan with his family as a boy.
   Survivors include the widow Eleanor, three
daughters and a sister.
   Funeral arrangements are pending.
