GRIFFITH PASSES FRIDAY Illness Fatal to Mother of Mayor Griffith- Funeral Probably Will Be Held Monday With Burial In Sunset Mrs. E. E. Griffith of 510 Houston, mother of Mayor Evan Griffith, died about 1:30 o'clock Friday afternoon of heart trouble, which developed from ashma. Mrs. Griffith had been in ill health for three years, but her condition became serious only two weeks ago. She had been unconscious since about midnight Thursday. Funeral plans have not been announced, but the rites will be held at the Catholic church, probably Monday morning. She will be buried in Sunset cemetery, and at her request the body of her husband who died six years ago will be brought here from Scranton, Pa., for burial. "Mother" Griffith, as she liked to be known, was born at Scranton, April 3, 1874. She was married at Scranton, her husband operating coal mines there. Twenty-one years ago they came to Manhattan in order to provide educational opportunities for their children. In addition to Mayor Griffith, a daughter Miss Josie Griffith of the home, and T. J. Griffith, 1622 Humboldt, also survive. All three graduated from Kansas State college. Her husband's body was sent to Pennsylvania for interment, but aftr the development of Sunset Cemetery Mrs. Griffith expressed the desire that it be brought back to Manhattan and interred here. Two sister, Mrs. J. W. Menzie of 1531 Poynts, and Mrs. William Butler of Topeka also survive. Mrs. Griffith was a member of the American Legion auxiliary, the Minerva club and the Altar society. Last rites for Mrs. E. E. Griffith, who died Friday, were conducted Monday morning at Seven Dolors Catholic church by Rev. A. J. Luckey, assisted by Rev. Joseph Browne of Ogden and Rev. Dowling of St. Mary's. The choir from the Sacred Heart academy sang. The pallbearers were William Fay, Blake Wareham, Claude Lee, A. N. McMillin, Russell Collister, Gerald Smith, Dr. Ralph Ball and Sherman Herren. Many of the friends sent flowers in tribute to Mrs. Griffith, and nearly all departments of the city goverment were closed during the services.
