Manhattan Nationalist Thur Dec 11, 1919 pg 1 EVAN GRIFFITH IS ILL Overwork Is Cause of Illness -- Has Given Time Unsparingly to Wood Distribution. (From Wednesday's Daily) Evan Griffith, coal dealer, is ill at his home as a result of overwork. Mr. Griffith has worked early and late every day in the week since the fuel crisis began, and has given every ounce of his strength to the work of distributing the city's wood supply. As he had no coal in his yards, he turned his yard over to the city for a municipal wood yard, and has been on the job all the time ever since weighing in loads of wood. He has given his time and the use of his yards free of charge to the city. It goes without saying that all Manhattan thanks Mr. Griffith for his unselfish service, and hopes for his speedy recovery from his present illness. Mr. Griffith has proven himself to be a 100 per cent American, and the soul of generosity. The Scranton Gazette Thur Oct 30, 1913 pg 5 Evan Griffith and his daughter Josie of Manhattan and David Griffith Jr. of Pittsburg were here Wednesday to attend the funeral of the boys' father. The Scranton Gazette Thu May 30, 1912 pg 5 Evan Griffith has purchased a coal yard in Manhattan and will move his family to that place next week. [and on same page] J.
