BROWN Long Illness of Well Known Portland Woman Is Ended Last Night. Mrs. C. B. Brown Mrs. Clara D. Brown, wife of Charles B. Brown, passed away last night at their home at Fourteenth and Salmon, after a prolonged illness. For several wees past she had been confined to her bed, and much of the time was unconscious. At the last, however, she regained consciousness and remained so till the end. With her were her husband, her son Hoyt and her parents Dr. and Mrs. A. Lindsey. The funeral will take place from the house at 1 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, and the remains will be taken to Hillsboro to be interred in the Brown family lot. Dr. J. Whitcomb Brougher will officiate. Mrs. Brown was in the wreck of the Elk's excursion train near Chehalis some six years ago, and in addition to having her left arm torn off her constitution was shattered so that she had most of the time since then been under the care of a physician. She was of a cheerful, lovable disposition with the hosts of friends, and hid her sufferings beneath a smiling, uncomplaining exterior. For the past month it had been known that there was no hope of recovery from this last illness and she had failed steadily every day. During her conscious moments she was happy in the realization that death was near and longed openly for it. Mrs. Brown was born in Wichita, Kan., in 1872, and came west with her parents in 1890. She was married to Dr. Brown in May, 1894, in Ukiah, Cal., and came at once to Portland to live, where she had since resided. She is survived by her parents, her son and her husband, who is a prominent dentist and automobilist of Portland. ------------------------------- Orgonian Wed Aug 4, 1909 pg 4 MRS. C. B.
