He was an Official Court Reporter for Div 1, Sedgwick County District Court & the first reporter to use the stenograph machine in this county. After serving in Sedgwick county for 20 years, Mr. Gass served 9 years in the same capacity in the District Court, North Platte, NE, then 9 years in NE as a freelance court reporter. Mr. Gass was a history buff and was especially interested in the Civil War. His wife Alice, a former elementary teacher in Nebraska & Calif, died Jan, 1994. Mr. Gass was a World War II veteran, having served in General Eisenhower's Advanced Headquarters as a Sergeant. Richard and his family traveled extensively in some 25 countries and were especially interested in Sweden where Mrs. Gass had many 1st & 2nd Cousins.
