A longtime Wichita resident passed away after developing complications following
knee surgery. S/O Robert Earl and Laura Elizabeth (Garman) Taylor  He moved with
his family to Wichita, where he graduated from Wichita North High School in 1938
and Friends University in 1942. Because they had little, the Taylor children
worked hard to support one another. Mike, who contributed by delivering
newspapers for the Wichita Eagle and Beacon throughout his high school and
university years, was proud that so many of the eight siblings attained college
degrees. The close familial bond created by their mutual effort was never
broken. At 6'7" tall, Mike became a star basketball player at Friends. Known as
"Thin Man Taylor," he led the Quaker squad in a lively competition with
cross-town rival, Wichita State University. For his exploits on the court he was
inducted into the Friends University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. At Friends
he met his wife-to-be, Betty Lou Ezell. After their marriage in 1943, Mike
served with the US Army in the South Pacific, while Betty was posted with the
Marine Corps to Camp Pendleton, CA. Following the end of WWII, Mike and Betty
established their home in Wichita and raised four children. While Betty handled
the household, Mike took a degree in Business at Wichita State and qualified as
a Certified Public Accountant. He joined the accounting firm of Arthur Young &
Company in 1949 and left in 1956 with two associates to found the firm of
Coffman, Kocour and Taylor. Their small firm prospered and merged in 1961 with
Elmer Fox and Company, where Mike advanced to Managing Partner. The success and
growth of Fox led to Mike and Betty's relocation to Denver in 1977. He "retied"
from Fox in 1983 to become vice-president of LB Industries in Boise, ID. 

Following his beloved Betty's death in 1989, Mike returned to Denver to reside
with his daughter, Janet Cranmer. Deeply committed to public service, Mike was a
tireless and generous supporter of community and professional institutions. He
was on the Board of Directors of the Kansas Society of CPA's from 1967-71,
acting as President 1969-70. From 1959-77 he served on the Board of Directors of
the United Way of Wichita. He promoted Wichita State University as a member of
the Board of Governors of the Endowment Association from 1968-77. Closest to his
heart, however, was Friends University, where he served on the Board of Trustees
from 1980-90 and remained on active emeritus status.
