July 18, 1889

Thos. G. LAIRD, living 6 miles northeast of here, brought in last Monday a bunch
of volunteer cane, which is measured 8 feet in height. Mr. Laird has a corn
field of 40 acres which promises at least 50 bushels of corn per acre, and his
cane is doing splendid.
