Mrs. May DOWNING, 71, widow of Alvin W. Downing, died last yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter in Olathe. Mrs. Downing had been seriously ill the past five months. Mr. and Mrs. Downing came to Seward county in 1912 from Kansas City, Mo., and farmed in northern Seward county until Mrs. Downing's healthy failed in 1939, when they moved to Liberal. Mr. Dowing died in 1946 and since his death Mrs. Downing has made her home with her daughter. She was a member of Golden Plains Baptist Church, the Golden Plains Ladies Aid and the Golden Hour club. She is survived by the daughter, Mrs. Stanley FERGASON, Olathe, a son, Willard, Liberal, five grandchildren, all of Liberal, and three brothers and two sisters. Wendell Miller of the Miller Mortuary and her son left for Olathe yesterday evening to return the remains to Liberal for funeral services and burial.
