Hanlin. Mrs. Mary C. HANLIN, 78, died early this morning at her home, 621 West Second, following a brief illness. She had been a resident of this city about 46 years. Mrs. Hanlin came west from Ohio in 1888 with her mother, the late Mrs. Nancy ASHCRAFT, to settle in Beaver county, Okla., where Mrs. Ashcraft taught pioneer schools at Clear Lake, Boyd and Kokomo. In 1893, they moved to Liberal in order that Mrs. Hanlin might receive further education at the old Lincoln school. She finished her education at Raton, N.M., and then moved back to Beaver county, then part of "No Man's Land," where she made final proof on a homestead in 1901. In August 1903, Mrs. Hanlin and her mother went to Ohio to visit relatives. While there she met and married Perry F. Hanlin. In 1908 they returned to Liberal which had been her home since. Mr. Hanlin died in 1929. Mrs. Hanlin wa a member of the Methodist church and active in its work as long as her health permitted. She was a president of the Ladies Aid, now the WSCS. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors lodge and No Man's Land Pioneer association and had been a member of the Sunnyside Homemakers club for 35 years. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Raymond BREWINGTON; a son, Dick Hanlin; two granddaughters and one great-grandson, all of Liberal. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Methodist church by Dr. L.R. Templin. Burial will be in the Liberal cemetery. Miller Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
