Funeral Services for Mrs. Hattie Merchant To Be Held Tuesday. Mrs. Hattie MERCHANT, age 82 years, pioneer resident of the southwest and Liberal citizen for the past 39 years, passed away Sunday night at 11:40 o'clock at her home at 726 North Pennsylvania avenue, following an extended illness. The body will lie in state at the Campbell-Beeler Mortuary on North Kansas avenue this afternoon and evening and tomorrow until the hour of the service. The funeral is being conducted at the Methodist churcha t 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon by Reverend Ernest A. Hull. Interment will be made by her husband in the Liberal cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Merchant came to No Man's Land in what is now Beaver, Oklahoma, in 1886 and engaged in cattle raising and farming. Due to Mrs. Merchant's ill health they sold the ranch and moved to Liberal in 1898. Mr. Merchant operated a livery stable on Kansas avenue, across the street south from the present location of the Hotel Warren. He died in 1902. One child was born to Mr. and Mrs. Merchant, Mrs. Jentie STEWART, who passed away in 1931. She is survived by one brother, C.T. HARTMAN of Toronto, Kansas, four grandchildren, George FOLTZ, of Newport Beach, Californi; W.B. Foltz of Dalhart, Texas; Mrs. Oscar DOWDY of Liberal and Frank R. HIGHLAND, of Hutchinson. She also leaves six great granddaughters. Mrs. Merchant was a faithful member of the Liberal Methodist church.
