N.D. "Pete" ZEIGLER, about 50 years of age, 210 North Pershing, died suddenly in his home at 12:30 this afternon of a heart attack. Zeigler, who had been a rural mail carrier here for nine years, dropped dead while engaged in a telephone conversation shortly after he had finished lunch. Zeigler had carried his route this morning and returned to his home shortly before noon. He came to Liberal in the spring of 1944 from Oakley where he had been postmaster for eight years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Dayl attending Wichita University and Mrs. Dorothy BRINKMAN at Emporia. He was well-known throughout this area as an ardent sport fan and served as president of the locatl Downtown Quarterbacks, as well as holding offices in rural mail carriers associations. Southwest Daily Times, Thursday, December 3, 1953. Zeigler Rites Friday. Funeral services for N.D. Zeigler, who died yesterday, will be conducted Friday morning at 10 o'clock in the Methodist church by Dr. L.R. Templin, pastor. Following services here the body will be taken to Oakley for additional services at 4 p.m. in the Methodist church there. Burial will be in Oakley cemetery. Miller Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Southwest Daily Times, Saturday, December 5, 1953. Return From Zeigler Services at Oakley. Mrs. N.D. Zeigler and daughter, Miss Daryl Zeigler, returned last night from Oakley, where they accompanied the boyd of their husband and father for services and burial. Mr. and Mrs. Zeigler's elder daughter, Mrs. J.W. BRINKMAN and Mr. Brinkman, and their son, Stevie, came from Emporia for the services held here yesterday, before the service at Oakley. Miss Daryl Zeigler will return to Wichita tomorrow, where she is a student in Wichita University. Mr. Brinkman, who is art instructor in the high school at Emporia, is returning to Emporia tomorrow, but Mrs. Brinkman and their little son are remaining here. Mr. and Mrs. Dick PURDUM came from Guymon, Okla., yesterday to attend the services here for Mr. Zeigler, who was a cousin of Mr. Purdum. Friends from Liberal who went to Oakley for the service were A.H. Freeman, Roscoe Lea and Earl Simmonds. There was heavy snow in that area, but the roads were quite well cleared when they returned home last night. The Southwest Daily Times, Saturday, December 5, 1953. N.D. Zeigler Rites. Funeral services for N.D. Zeigler were conducted Friday morning in the Methodist church by Dr. L.R. Templin, pastor. Only music for the service was an organ selection by Mrs. Guy Spear. Attending the group were fellow postal employees and the high school band. Pallbearers were Harold Worthington, Dennis Montee, Chester Naylor, Roscoe Lea, Lott Kennedy and W.H. Schultz. Following services here the remains were taken to Oakley for additional services Friday afternoon with burial in Oakley cemetery.
