He was born June 6, 1917, to Vincente and Guadalupe (Ortiz) Covarrubias in Durango City, Mexico. He married Maria Florentina Hernandez July 4, 1939, in Durango City, Mexico. She survives. He was a farmer. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and Western Avenue Church of Christ in Liberal. Other survivors include nine sons, Felipe Covarrubias, Fort Worth, Texas, Andres Covarrubias, Deming, N.M., Juan Covarrubias, San Jose, Calif., Roberto Covarrubias, San Jose, Calif., Antonio Covarrubias, Texas City, Texas, Jorge Covarrubias Sr., Adams, Okla., Victor Covarrubias Sr., Liberal, Jesus Covarrubias, Fort Worth, Texas, and Armando Covarrubias, Liberal; three daughters, Velia Rodriguez, El Paso, Texas, Amparo Chavira, Liberal, and Lilia Lomas, Liberal; 50 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his great granddaughter Liana Marie Orozco. Funeral mass will be at 5 p.m. Thursday in Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel with Father Patrick A. Keyes presiding. Burial will be 1 p.m. in Restlawn Cemetery.
