Grant Date of Birth: 1927 Date of Death: 2007 NOTES/INSCRIPTION/SHARES TOMBSTONE: (1) Inscription: TOGETHER FOREVER (2) S/W: Juanita I. =========================================================== Additional Comments: Birth: Jan. 11, 1927 in Baker, Texas County, Oklahoma Death: Feb. 4, 2007 in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas Chester "Chet" Grant, 80, of Hooker, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2007, at Northwest Texas Heart Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. Chet was born January 11, 1927, in Baker, Oklahoma, the son of Robert E and Edith Deaton Grant. He was united in marriage to Juanita Southern, April 18, 1953, in Clayton, New Mexico. They were married for 54 years. Chet served in the U.S. Army 4th Infantry Division, stationed in Ft. Benning, Georgia, and was later sent to Germany, where he served until receiving his honorable discharge. Upon returning to the states, he started work for Cities Service Gas Company, working there for thirty-four years. When he retired, Juanita and Chet traveled to every state in the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. Chet built a home in Liberal, Kansas, and later built the home where they now reside in Hooker, Oklahoma. Chet enjoyed all types of carpentry work, of which he was a master craftsman. He was an avid pilot. They owned their plane and flew all over the United States. He always enjoyed taking his family and friends for rides. He was a people lover and enjoyed spending time with family. He also enjoyed the music shows in Nashville, Tennessee. Chet was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jim and Donald Grant, nephew, Randy Grant, and a niece, Janice Roland. Survivors include his wife, Juanita of the home; two brothers, Robert Grant of Liberal, Kansas, Dillard Grant and his wife Janice of Turpin, Oklahoma; five sisters, Bobbie Lundberg and her husband Charles, Fannie Russell, Ola Howie and her husband, Herb, all of Liberal, Kansas, Nina Lauderdale of Athens, Alabama, and Glayds Reece of Dodge City, Kansas; one sister-in-law Ethel Grant of Liberal, Kansas; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2007, at the First Christian Church in Liberal, Kansas, with Rev. Stan Hamanoto of the First Christian Church in Hooker, Oklahoma, and Rev. Bob Griffin officiating. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal, Kansas, under the direction of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. in Hooker, Oklahoma. The family suggests memorials be given to the First Christian Church in Hooker or the First Christian Church in Liberal or the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donors choice and may be left at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc., Box 745, Hooker, Oklahoma 73945.
