Woman Files Papers.
First Kansan for State Offices--Is Socialist From Hutchinson.

The first Kansas woman to seek nomination in the coming primaries for either
state or congressional office, filed her intentions today with J.T. BOTKIN,
secretary of state. She is Mrs. Clyde Condron JEFFREYS, of Hutchinson, who is a
candidate for the Socialist nomination for congress in the Seventh district.
When Mrs. Jeffrey's statement came to the secretary of state's office today, it
aroused a question concerning the right of the woman to order the appearance of
her name on the ballot with the "Mrs." attached. The attorney general's office,
however, held that her name might go on the ballot as signed. It is the first
time that "Mrs." or "Miss" has been printed on a state-wide primary ballot in
Kansas. Usually women candidates have merely filed a Mary Jones or Lucy Smith. 
Filing a declaration by Mrs. Jeffreys is believed to indicate a plan of Kansas
Socialists to file a full ticket in the state. It is believed that candidates
will be certified for all state congressional and senatorial positions.
