Barker Dies in Topeka At Age of 78. William Garrett BARKER, 78, 1010 N. Michigan, died Sunday in a Topeka hospital of a heart condition. He was born September 18, 1886, in Lecompton in Douglas County. He moved to Topeka in 1911 and has lived here since. Mr. Barker was a teacher for 12 years in the Kansas school system, serving as principal at Rossville, Highland Park and Gove City. He also taught for three years in U.S. government schools in the Philippine Islands. He was for many years a representative of the Prudential Insurance Co. in the Oakland District until his retirement in 1951. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Orient Lodge No. 51, Topeka Chapter No. 5 of Royal Arch Masons and Beulah Chapter No. 34, Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include his wife, Emma, of the home; a son, James C. Barker, San Diego, Calif.; two step-sons, DeArmond JOHNSON, 719 Watson, Kenneth W. JOHNSON, Wichita, and seven grandchildren. Wall-Diffenderfer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
