Joseph D. Brogden With All-Kansas Regiment. District Manager for Mutual Ice Co. Before Answering Call to Service, Last April. Joseph D. BROGDEN, formerly a district manager here for the Mutual Ice Co., was killed in action in France, according to a telegram received from the war department yesterday by his mother, Mrs. Mary Brogden, 510 West Ninth street. He was a member of the 353rd all-Kansas regiment, and entered the war by way of Camp Funston with other Topeka selects April 26, 1918. letter written to a friend at Meriden September 7, just a few days before he met his death on the battle line, told of his appointment as a sergeant. Surviving besides his mother, are two sisters, Miss Clara Brodgen of the home address, and Mrs. Edna MITCHELL, 417 Lime street, and a brother, who lives in Oklahoma. It is believed Sergeant Brogden wa killed at the time of the Yankee drive in reducing the St. Mihiel salient, which started September 12.
