He was born Aug. 22, 1891, in Dermott, Ark., and lived in Topeka since 1923. He was a blacksmith's helper at the Santa Fe Railway shops for many years until retirement Dec. 31, 1958. Mr. Brown was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church, where he served on the board of deacons; a member and chaplain of Kaw Valley Lodge No. 18, F. and AF and AM, and a member of Mabel E. Jackson Court, No. 29, H. of J., where he was a past director. Survivors include his widow, Nellie at home; three daughters, Mrs. Blanche HOOD at home, Mrs. Julia CLEMENS of Chicago, and Mrs. Viola SMITH of 708 Overton; five sons, Earl of 816 OVerton, Emery Jr., of New York City, James and Joseph of Los Angeles, and Willie at home; two stepsons, Samuel BROWN of Chicago, and Buster COLEMAN of 625 E. 12th; four sisters, Mrs. Alice COOKand Mrs. Ardelia COLE of Pine Bluff, Ark., Mrs. Carrie DAVIS of 1028 Lafayette, and Mrs. Viola LEE of Chicago; a brother, Eddie BROWN, of 724 E. 10th, and 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
