William E. BUTLER, 78, Kansas City, Mo., formerly of 326 Courtland in Topeka, died Saturday at a Kansas City, Kan., hospital after a short illness. He was born Oct. 3, 1886 in Topeka and moved to Kansas City three years ago. He was chief clerk of Santa Fe Railway. He retired Feb.1, 1955 after more than 50 years of service with the railway. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church when he lived in Topeka. He was a member of Knights of Columbus No. 534, the Fourth Degree, Santa Fe Oldtimers Club and was a former member of American War Dads, No. 31. He was active as manager of local amateur baseball teams in the 1920's and 1930's. His wife, Mrs. Ethel Butler, died Dec. 1, 1961. A son, William E. Butler, Jr., died in 1964. Survivors include a son, James G. Butler, Shawnee-Mission; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy WILSON, Grand Rapids, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Maudie CARLSON, 1351 Campbell; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Butler, Kansas City, Mo., six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be in Topeka. Arrangements are pending at Brennan Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
