Burgess. William Charles BURGESS, 74, pioneer Topekan, died Saturday at his home in Los Angeles, Calif. He was a retired foreman of the Santa Fe Railroad. He was born April 21, 1865, in Michigan, and came to North Topeka in 1870. He was married to Harriet C. COLE in 1892 and their home was at Van Buren and Gordon Streets. He was an engineer of the first electric plant in North Topeka and at the Van Buren Street plant of the Kansas Power and Light Company. He began his employment with the railroad in 1902, after having worked with the Page Mills and the Shawnee Mills. Surviving are his widow and a daughter, Mrs. Robert BILLARD, of Topeka. Mr. and Mrs. BILLARD were with Mr. BURGESS at the time of his death.
