Rev. John B. Deever Who Lived Here 77 Years, Is Dead. The Rev. John B. DEEVER, 78, resident of Topeka and vicinity for 77 years, died Monday at his home 1521 Kansas avenue. He was born in Wisconsin and came to Kansas when one year of age. He entered Lane university at Lecompton and attended there until 1880. He married Miss Janet ETHERINGTON, Overbrook, Kan., in that year. He was a pioneer Untied Brethren minister and served as superintendent of the Topeka district 12 years. He servied in the ministry 54 years. The Rev. Mr. DEEVER was president of the board of trustees of Campbell college, Holton, for many years following its founding. He was awarded the Carnegie medal 20 years ago for bravery in saving a man's life. During his administration the First United Brethren church was organized 44 years ago. He had been connected with that church ever since. He and Mrs. DEEVER celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1930. A year later his wife died. About a year ago he married Mrs. Melissa SLUSEER. Besides his widow he is survived by five children, the Rev. O.T. DEEVER, Dayton, O., general secretary fo the department of education of the United Brethren church; the Rev. A.L. DEEVER, Independence, Kan.; Mrs. C.F. ATWOOD, Topeka; Rev. O.H. DEEVER, WInfield, Kan.; Roy DEEVER, Kansas City, Mo., and 13 grandchildren. Funeral services will be at the First United Brethren church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
