On July 26, just three months ago, Bennie J. ELLIS joined the Thirteenth ammunition train at Fort Riley. On August 5 he entrained to Camp Lewis, Wash., and on October 21, died in the Washington army camp. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan L. Ellis, 224 West Laurent street, Topeka. He was 26 years old, having been born in Hall county, Neb., on January 10, 1892. When a small boy, Ellis and his brother attended the Methodist Sunday school at Clifton, Kan., and later he was a devoted church worker. He is survived by his parents and four brothers, Silas, Watson and Boyd of Topeka, and George Ellis, a member of the Tenth division, now stationed at Camp Funston. Mr. Ellis will be buried with full military honors. The funeral will be held this morning at 10 o'clock from Penwell's chapel and will be in charge of Dr. Edmund J. Kulp. The burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.
