Widely Known Tailor, Moved to Topeka in 1873. George M. EAGLE, 77, old resident of Topeka and a merchant tailor for years, died in a Topeka hospital Monday morning. Mr. EAGLE was a brother of the late Charles S. EAGLE, cigar manufacturer. Mr. EAGLE was born in Morganville, Ind., September 21, 1855, and came to Kansas his parents the following year. His father operated a hotel at Big Springs until he was killed in the battle of the Big Blue during the Civil war. He moved to Topeka in 1873 and for years was an employe of the Robinson-Marshall Clothing Co. After being associated with the Palace Clothing Co. for some time, he entered business. He operated a tailor shop at 930 Kansas avenue until two years ago when he moved his establishment to his home at 910 Quincy. He was a life member of Topeka Lodge No. 17, A.F. & A. M., and was one of the oldest past masters in Topeka. He also was a member of Topeka chapter No. 5, Topeka Commandery No. 5, and the Arab Shrine. In 1882, he was married to Laura C. JOHNSON, daughter of W.H. JOHNSON, Topeka implement dealer. They observed their golden wedding anniversary last year. Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Lizzie DAVIS, Wamego; and a nephew, Harry EAGLE, Topeka. Funeral services in charge of Topeka Commandery No. 5 will be at the Wall-Diffenderfer mortuary Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock. The body will lie in state at the mortuary from Tuesday evening until Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock.
