Family Came to Kansas in 1857, Prominent in Social Life. Mrs. Elizabeth Paterson HANDY, who died Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John R. SHELTON, had lived in Topeka continously since 1885, and had always held a prominent place in the social life of the town. Mrs. Handy was born in Whitney's Point, N.Y., October 13, 1833. She was married to Nathaniel F. Handyh, September 29, 1856. Mr. and Mrs. Handy first came to Kansas in 1857 and went from here to Mauch Chunk, Pa., where they resided for a time. Fromthere they returned to Topeka and remained two years. They then moved to Lansing, Mich., where they remained until 1885, when they returned to Topeka and have lived here ever since. Mr. Handy died April 17, 1907. Mrs. Handy was a member of the board of directors of Ingleside from the time of its foundation. She was a member of the Colonial Dames, D.A.R., and Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John R. SHELTON, and a grandson, George H. Shelton, both of Topeka.
