Helm, Farmer. Falling Barn Door Stretched Rope, Breaking His Neck. He Was Repairing Hay Swing, and Was Caught and Pinned to Timbers When Rope Jerked. Frank W. HELM, 36, was killed almost instantly at 9:30 o'clock yesterday morning at his home east of the city, when he was caught by the neck by the hay swing rope inside of his barn. His neck was broken. Mr. Helm, at the time of the accident, was repairing the hay swing. The door in the barn loft, fastened to the rope, suddenly fell to the side of the barn while he was trying to force it open. The rope caught him by the neck as it was stretched out by the weight of the falling door, and pinned him to some timbers. Mr. Helm was a native of Kansas. He was born In Pottawatomie county and lived there twenty-six years. Ten years ago he moved to Mission Center. Last year he settled on the farm east of Topeka. He is survived by his widow, two children, Callista, 6, and William, 4; his mother, Mrs. Mary Helm, who lives in Rochester district, north of the city and three brothers, Roy T. Helm and Perry Helm, all of whom live near Topeka. (Note: Only two brothers were mentioned in article.
