Larrie Dean Herschell, , 64, Berryton, passed away peacefully, Saturday, April
7, 2007, at Midland Hospice, surrounded by his family and friends. Larrie was
born October 7, 1942 in Topeka, the son of Dayton and Marquerite Coultis
Herschell. He grew up in the Berryton area, and graduated from Berryton High
School. Larrie married Janice (Jan) Weerts on November 22, 1963 in Berryton.
Larrie was a Volkswagen mechanic, and later began a career as a firefighter.
After 33 years of service, he retired from the Topeka Fire Department as
Battalion Chief. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge, The Topeka
Firefighter Union # 83, the Corvair Society of America, and Berryton United
Methodist Church. Larrie was an avid toy collector, and enjoyed boating, water
skiing, camping, NASCAR, and had been a former drag racer. He is survived by his
wife of 43 years, Jan; a son, Lance Herschell, Topeka, a daughter, DeOn Cahill
and her husband Jim, Lincoln, NE; 2 grandchildren, Tyler and Shelby Cahill, and
his mother Marquerite Kahler, and her husband Roy of Topeka. He was preceded in
death by his father. Funeral services will be held at 1p.m., Wednesday, April
11, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka, with burial to follow at
Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Berryton. Larrie will lie in state after 1 p.m., Tuesday
at the funeral home, with a family visitation from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday evening. In
lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be given to the
Berryton United Methodist Church, 7010 SE Berryton Road, Berryton, 66409. Larrie
